We are the Dallas/Fort Worth Gastro-Intestinal Experts who can Help!

Burning Pain

Heartburn begins as a burning pain behind the breastbone, and it then usually radiates upward toward your throat.

Affects Millions

More than 60 million American adults experience heartburn at least once a month, and about 15 million American adults have heartburn on a daily basis.

Biological Causes

While lifestyle habits can worsen your heartburn symptoms, and increase the number of heartburn episodes, heartburn is a medical condition with biological causes.

Heartburn occurs when the acid from the stomach works its way back into the esophagus, causing a burning or discomfort. The acid backs up into the esophagus when the lower esophageal sphincter muscle weakens or relaxes abnormally. Heartburn, also known as acid indigestion is a burning sensation in the chest, just behind the breastbone or in the upper abdomen. The pain often rises in the chest and may seem like it has spread to the neck, throat, or jaw.

Food Triggers

Approximately 94 percent of people who experience heartburn can link their heartburn symptoms to specific foods.

Sleep Disruption

Eighty percent of people who have heartburn report symptoms at night and 75 percent say nighttime heartburn awakens them during the night or prevents them from sleeping.

Lifestyle Causes

Reduce the onset of heartburn with healthy lifestyle changes - know the difference between good and bad foods, avoid alcohol, stop smoking, lose weight and reduce stress.

Don't Let Chronic Heartburn Go Untreated

Otherwise you can be left to deal with even more severe health issues

If you brush off the symptoms of heartburn, this common condition — as well as its more serious form, GERD — can cause other health issues to flare-up. Over time, as your stomach juices wash back up, the stomach acid can cause severe damage your esophagus, teeth, and more.

Therefore, if you experience heartburn or acid reflux more than twice a week, you may have chronic acid reflux or GERD.

Leah L....the staff at Ft. Worth LAP-BAND® essentially saved my life! I weighed 326 lbs. and was slowly but surely asphyxiating myself with my weight. I had to use a sleep apnea machine every night just to get enough oxygen when I slept. Because I was not able to get sufficient oxygen, I stayed swollen constantly; I had red splotches all over my skin. I also had constant back pain, and really just did not want to DO anything.... I have since lost 106 pounds and am still losing weight! I am so very grateful to the FWLB staff for everything they have done for me.

Craig K.After having LAP-BAND® surgery, I gained the courage and confidence to branch out into wound care. I’ve proven myself, and the company I work for has now agreed to pay for my wound care certification. I couldn’t be happier.

John M.I am so happy I decided to have the gastric sleeve! Post-op I have realized there is more to life than sitting at home in front of the TV with my bag of Cool Ranch Doritos and HUGE Dr. Pepper. It has improved my ability to do my job tremendously. I no longer feel restricted in my body; I can do push-ups and lift weights, and I try harder to learn how to do things myself instead of asking for help. I now enjoy going out and doing activities with my family and friends! Being able to be active is awesome!

Diagnosis & Treatment

A candidate for TIF procedure will have tried 6 months of PPI (proton pump inhibitor) medication. An EGD will be done to determine if the patient has acute esophagitis, and measurements will be taken to ensure TIF is the correct procedure.

TIF is considered the newest technology in treating Heartburn. (Acid Reflux, and GERD).

TIF (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) is an incisionless treatment of the underlying cause of GERD. This procedure reconstructs the antireflux valve and restores the body’s natural protection against reflux.
